Hello,

I’m Kim, an illustrator based in Gateshead, in the north-east of England.

I have loved art and creativity since I was tiny. I went to Newcastle Art College when I left school, but life got in the way, and while still painting pet portraits and making silver jewellery in my spare time, I worked in offices, on farms, and various other places until I finally decided, at the age of 42, to go back to Uni and study a BA in illustration with the OCA.

I love children’s picture books, and I think they are such an important part of any childhood.

Fun facts about me:

  • I’m a qualified shepherdess

  • I worked on a farm for 10 years

  • I hand forge sterling silver jewellery, sculpt goblins and other creatures, create stained glass items, carve wood, and also do lino printing and pyrography!

  • I have been painting pet portraits for the best part of 20 years

  • I’m autistic

  • Jim Henson’s Creature Shop liked one of my digital paintings on Instagram once!
